Our Mission

Rivertown Christian Volleyball is a local travel club for homeschooled girls at the middle, elementary, junior and senior high levels in the West Michigan area, centrally located in Wyoming. We welcome girls in the 3rd grade through their 12th grade year. We have served hundreds of families in the homeschool community for over 10 years and continue to be dedicated to training and teaching the sport of volleyball while using the game to relate to leading a Christian life. While we strive to Build Unity through God's Grace, we will teach your daughters the fundamentals of volleyball, practice teamwork and make friendships that last beyond the sport, all while honoring the talents Christ gifted us.

We are here to teach the fundamentals of competitive volleyball, practice teamwork, create friendships that lasts beyond the season, and cultivate leadership, all while honoring Christ.

Kristin Haight

God has blessed my husband, Levi, and I with being married 20 years. In this time together we have witnessed God's goodness and grace in so many amazing ways! This is our third year homeschooling all four of our children, Kaitlin (17),  Malachi (14), Ezekiel (11), and Makayla (9). Our oldest, Kait, loves to play volleyball, so we were excited to find RCV last season. As a parent of kids who love their sports and someone who has volunteered with various sport opportunities, I have gotten to see both sides of things. I now look forward to capturing memories and having the opportunity to help RCV blossom as a club.

Coach Emma_edited.jpg

Emma Summerfield

Varsity Head Coach

I grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and was homeschooled along with my two younger sisters through high school. I played at RCV from 7th grade through 12th and I also played club volleyball at Michigan Volleyball Academy.

After high school, I was recruited to play volleyball for Grace Christian University. My primary position throughout my volleyball career was Libero/Defensive Specialist. I was also team captain in my junior and senior year.

In 2016, I started coaching at MVA. I have coached teams ranging in age from 12-17 years old. As a former player for RCV, I am excited to invest in the program that impacted me.

For college, I had the opportunity to do a dual-degree program with Grace Christian and Davenport University for accounting. In 2021, I graduated with my Bachelors in Business Administration and Masters in Accountancy. I currently work at EHTC in Accounting Services.

Dan Scholma

Assistant Junior Varsity Coach

My name is Dan Scholma and my wife and I have homeschooled for 19 years.  We live in Allendale and have 3 children.  Ethan married 3 years ago and just gave us our first grandchild. Ellie works as a wedding photographer and travels in the winter.  Grace is 15 and loves basketball, volleyball, and praise band.  My wife is a wonderful homeschool Mom who loves encouraging other homeschool kids as well.  She is constantly planning things to encourage friendships and opportunities to grow closer to Christ with Grace's teammates. I work in Comstock Park designing for a tool and die company.  I worked with cadets in our church for over 20 years.  For the past four years I have been coaching girl's JV basketball and absolutely love it.

I am really excited to work with the JV head coach and the girls to encourage skills, discipline, drive, and commitment.  As a basketball coach, I have helped many girls excel in these areas and am appreciative for the opportunity to work with the RCV girls as well.

Sports is an excellent tool for kids to learn skills, specific technics, and teamwork.  It builds patience, accountability, and commitment.  I teach kids to work hard, show up on time, complete challenges, and do their best.  I believe RCV is an excellent place for girls to grow as an athlete and most importantly closer to Christ. Thank you for trusting us with your girls.

Varsity Assistant Coach

Leah Summerfield

I was born and raised in Grand Rapids, MI. As a homeschooler, I had the opportunity to play volleyball for RCV from 6th to 12th grade. I also played club volleyball at Michigan Volleyball Academy. I filled many different positions on both my RCV and club teams, training primarily as a hitter and setter. After graduating high school, I attended Mount Vernon Nazarene University in central Ohio, where I continued to play on intramural volleyball teams. I graduated with my Bachelor of Science in Nursing in May of 2020 and started working at Spectrum Health in the Fall of 2020.

Last year, I transitioned to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, where I currently work as a neonatal intensive care nurse.

Volleyball was an integral part of my life and growth. It is such an incredible tool to teach young players about teamwork, communication, and diligence. I am so excited to return to RCV as a coach to share the game of volleyball with a new group of girls!
